ICT Barries in Soth African Education.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is pervasive in tertiary education, commerce and industries, yet many disadvantaged rural areas lag behind in technological development. For example; in rural schools students have weak ICT due to lack of integration and the compatibility of IT system and progress. Lack of technical support and communication also play bad role in rural schools.

Our country is facing a huge challenge when comes to ICT, especially rural schools; most townships schools students emerge computer skills in primary school as we all know that township schools are surrounded by computers and most of township teachers are being trained to integrate computers. Despite some extreme variation, schools in Gauteng have better ICT infrastructure than schools in Mpumalanga.

The principal factors that prevent rural schools from using computers as a tool for teaching and learning are:

- Insufficient funds in schools found in rural areas
- Insufficient number of computers
- Lack of computer literacy among teachers
- Lack of subject teachers trained to integrate computers into different learning areas
- The absence of a properly developed curriculum for teaching computer skills

Each and every South African schools must have equal access when comes to teaching and learning apparatus because educations aim is to help prepare students for the future. Schools must assert that there is need for teachers to use computers before schools start to use them

The government must make all public school to receive equal education like all private school ,ensure they have access to all electronics that will assist them to learn , and help them after they pass grade 12 to atleast have background knowledge and skills of most electronics like (printing machine, computer ,laminating machine etc)

  4. you are right mr Nkosi. i also reckon that the Government should address the issue of lack of ICT in schools, especially in rural school in view of the fact that many schools in rural areas are having a huge problem when it comes to technology like computers. you find that some learners there do not even know what a computer is, and that must come to an end. we are all under one government, so we should also have equal service.
